Why should the minimum salary be increased? The debate about raising the minimum wage is never-ending in America. Virginia’s minimum wage is a topic of much discussion. Virginia’s $7.25 minimum wage does not provide enough for some families. The government really should think, “Can people support their families with the minimum wage they are paying?” Answer: No! Minimum wage is making people really struggle. People think that the government must raise the minimum wages because they cannot pay their bills. Some people in Virginia are living paycheck-to-paycheck, so they deserve more than $7.25. Minimum wage is increasing. The minimum wage is out of control. Let’s imagine a five-day period of eight hours work per day. This person will make $290. Normally, they are paid every 2 weeks. The government would take $580 from that person’s check. Electricity bills are usually $111.13. That leaves $468.87 for the person. Other bills such as rent, water and insurance are next. People work very hard to receive minimum wage. This is so wrong! People work overtime and are barely paid. It is absurd that people work eight-hour shifts without getting a decent break for lunch. This is not something that the government can get away with. The government pays minimum wage to people who work over eight hours a day and barely have time for their families. They deserve more, because they worked hard for it.
Virginians live paycheck-to-paycheck. They will not have anything if their paycheck isn’t received. Because they do not get paid enough, people cannot save any money. They can’t take care of their families if they live paycheck to payday. How will they provide for their children’s clothing, shoes, etc.? Parents may not be able to afford food for their children throughout the month. This adds more stress. Parents shouldn’t worry about the next meal. This issue should be resolved by the government.
In conclusion, many people fear being homeless if they can’t pay their mortgage or rent. It’s time to get together and raise the minimum wages. When more people join together, they’ll have to take action. They need more than $7.25. America must act now to address this issue.
